Not only does exercise improve a child’s overall health and fitness, it also helps to improve their mental health and cognitive development. By doing physical exercise, children are more likely to concentrate and maintain focus. As well as strengthening muscles and bones, exercise builds confidence, inspires positivity and improves social skills.
At Parkside, every class takes part in two hours of PE per week. High quality teaching in these lessons leads to increased participation levels in physical activity and result in healthier pupils who are more engaged with their work across the whole curriculum. These lessons are held either in our school hall or on our purpose built multi-use games area (MUGA). Our PE curriculum is well supported by Inclusive Sport, who support the delivery of the curriculum as well as offer after school sports clubs to all children.
We also make use of our local swimming pool at Kingsmead Leisure Centre to provide all our upper key stage two with the opportunity to learn to swim.

We aim to utilise a range of links to sport in the community. Here, Year 3 are taking part in a Tri-Golf afternoon, delivered by Kent Golf.
